Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
by Chocolate H.-D.

In a land of snow, a land of cold, a land of pure white, where no shadow dwelled too long, no living being crossed the invisible lines. Where the raging storm only conquered the deafening silence and the clouds would be the wind’s only toys. And no sun and no moon graced the sky, but a giant, black castle. No windows could be seen, no doors.

It stood like a gigantic mountain against the endless whiteness, imposing and invincible. But there was noone there who could have feared it. The castle was just as cold as the land that it was surrounded with. The darkness was not really darkness, even so noone could see anything at all. No eye was there to see. No ear to hear.

As the nothingness watched, another nothingness crawled through the castle, in a land of snow, a land of the cold, a land of pure white, where no shadow dwelled... but one.

There were no lines anymore to cross. There, where the raging storm still conquered the deafening silence and the clouds were the only toys of the wind. No sun and no moon grazed the sky as a darkness, darker than the night itself, made its escape. A darkness so black, it was one with the nothingness.

And the nothingness made its way over the icing land toward a point no eyes could see. And then, as the nothingness reached its goal, a cry so loud was heard, that it swallowed the raging storm and the deafening silence and its black light swallowed the white snow and the darkness that wasn’t dark.

Leaving nothing behind.

But… when somewhere, in the middle of a forest, a tree falls and noone is there to see or hear it, did it happen at all?
